Felix Schnarwiler et al. in the PNAS issue of May found that inheritance of the single mitochondrial genome of T. brucei depends on a β-barrel mitochondrial outer membrane protein that forms part of the physical connection linking mitochondrial DNA to the base of the flagellum.
